Editing DocBook XML

The recommended editor to use when writing documentation is the XMLmind XMLEditor. The standard edition can be obtained free of charge at the XMLEditor website and runs on any Java enabled platform. It allows near-WYSIWYG editing of DocBook XML while still giving full control over the markup used. Once you have the editor installed, please change some configuration settings.

XMLEditor configuration

  • In Edit -> Paste reference -> Type of document reference select XInclude

  • Make sure that in Save the indentation is enabled and set to 2 and the line width to 78, this helps with maintaining readable source
